PROJECTS

Noord Residence. Full renovation, Amsterdam Noord

SCOPE

Involved from initial drawings through construction and final placement of furniture and decoration — including vintage sourcing, paint selection and bespoke marble specification
Built in 1920, this house had survived long enough to have a point of view. Original details still intact, the kind of quiet character that newer buildings spend a lot of money trying to imitate. We had no interest in covering any of it up.

Every design decision was made in conversation with what was already there, bringing the original spirit of the house back where it had faded, and layering in the personality of the people living in it now. The two things, old and new, do not compete. They complete each other.

At the heart of the brief was a kitchen. Warm, large, generous, built around cooking, around family dinners, around drinks by the fire and conversations that start at the kitchen island and end there too, long after everyone meant to move to the sofa. We found the right marble slab, the specific one, not a compromise , and the right paint colour, which took longer than expected and was completely worth it.
A home that feels like it has always known who it belongs to. That is what we were after. That is what we built.
